When I was young, my mother compared me to a turtle – slow and steady. She helped me understand that’s how to win the race. I was captivated by these ancient creatures and my fascination continues to this day. When it came time to pick a name for my first business, the choice was obvious. So, in 2015, Terrapin Environmental Solutions Inc. was hatched.
The word “terrapin” comes from an Algonquian word for turtle. I believe terrapins share the best traits of turtles and tortoises. They are equally happy on the land and in the water. They thrive in one of my favorite natural habitats, the mysterious and ever-changing brackish marshes and coastal waters of North America. Despite the many changing threats they face—hunted for food, loss of habitat, and more recently, as bycatch in crab traps—they survive as a representative of Nature and its endurance. They are a traditional symbol of good health and long life.
TES has a passion for protecting our natural resources and addressing environmental threats. We believe that preserving and protecting our natural world and living a sustainable life is critical to survival of our planet. We strive to provide like-minded individuals and organizations with the tools and know-how to live and operate in an environmentally sustainable way through education and concrete actions. Our work includes providing environmental education to students and teachers and working with public and private clients to find customized environmentally and economically sustainable solutions for their operations and lifestyle.
There are actions that we each can take to help make a difference. We look forward to finding the right ones for you.
